In more blog-worthy, less stomach-turning news, though, we also bought a new car: a Nissan Rogue that will fit large furniture that we find on the curb, and future babies, which we probably won't find on the curb.
We picked up our new wheels on Friday, and in a serendipitous turn of events, I drove past this dresser, abandoned on the side of the road, on Saturday.
Since I was driving our far less roomy Elantra at the time, however (remember our creative Ikea piling?), and since I'd have to sprout superhuman biceps to be able to pick up a dresser by myself, I naturally sped home (safely) and convinced Rick we had to go get it. Yes, before lunch. Yes, right now.
It obviously needs some help, and this drawer is currently less than functional...
...but the knobs alone were worth the trip back.
We've already begun sanding it, since we have big plans for it to replace this TV stand that we have to awkwardly perch our VCR/DVD combo in because it doesn't fit properly:
And I'm not a wood purist...hence the paint swatches taped there.
So, in summary:
- Rick likes our new car because A) it's a four-wheeled shiny thing and he's a man and B) it has a rear camera and built-in Bluetooth and something called a continuously variable transmission at the mention of which I nod and smile and pretend to understand.
- I like our new car because I can easily fill it with treasures.
nice car and dresser-find!!
ReplyDeletelovely!
cheryl xox.
Oooooooooooooooooo....me like the dresser! I'm glad I'm not the only patient one that does crazy things for junky furniture.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday! Off to have another 10 minute conversation with a patient explaining that a multivitamin doesn't have a mg attached to it...all of the vitamins in it have mgs but not the vitamin as a whole. I might just go back to be bed. ;P
I really wish you would have had a disclaimer at the beginning of the post regarding the dead rat. As I am now reading this post at 8am which WAS prime breakfast time, but no longer is.
ReplyDeleteThe first pic I saw of the dresser, I was like are THOSE glass knobs!! Then further down saw that they were. Not only is that an incredibly handsome dresser, but those knobs are awesome. Congrats on the car!
I just had to laugh. I'm so sorry but with three dogs and two cats, I can so relate to unexpected surprises like that.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the car! I have three friends who have all bought it in the past year and they all LOVE it.
Wooo! Free stuff is awesome!! Good find! :) Are you going to paint/oil/stain it?
ReplyDeleteI love the lines of that dresser! And those knobs are unique - I've never seen that design before. :)
ReplyDeleteOh and congrats on the new car! I have a hatchback (Mazda Protege5), and it's shocking how much stuff can be crammed in it or be hauled around.
We have a dresser very similar to that which belonged to Kevin's grandmother. His mom gave me carte blanche to do whatever I wanted to it-- now I just have to decide what it's destined for.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with yours!
I get almost giddy when I see you have a new post. If we were in 4th grade I'd send you a note to ask if you wanted to be my pal. ;)
ReplyDeleteI always hope to find some gorgeous albeit formerly unloved piece to take home and nurse back to life. That chest made my jaw drop. I would have sat atop it until my hubby arrived to sweep us both back to the castle. Can't wait to see what you do w/it.
And as for NOT fun stuff...well, I came home today from lunch w a friend/mentor and found my dogs were not in the backyard. Nope, the 2 wascally wabs had eaten a hole in the fence and were enjoying the greener grass of our backyard neighbors. Aaaahhhhh!!!
Yay!! Congrats on the new car!! I know a few people with that kind and they love it!!
ReplyDeleteAww Faith I'd circle YES on that friend note. This is (part of) why I love blogging: getting to "meet" such lovely, uplifting people! :)
ReplyDeleteHey congrats on your new purchase! Just think about all of the side of the road finds you'll be able to bring home in that. LOVE the dresser, btw. Would throw something so beautiful to the curb? I'm glad it got rescued and now gets to go live with such a nice family.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe someone abandoned that dresser! What a fabulous find!! Great knobs too. :) Thanks so much for the visit today! :)
ReplyDeleteOK - I need another cup of coffee! 'Cause when I started reading this post I thought I saw "...dead moose glued to the dining room floor..." and I was going, "Oh boy - they've really got some whack-job friends who would pull a stunt like that!" (So I was quite relieved to find out it was just a trophy mouse...)
ReplyDeleteThose glass knobs are totally awesome! I would've removed those & pocketed them before returning home to retrieve the hubs/new car.
Congrats!
Ohhh, that is so gross...the mouse part that is. The car part is very exciting. The roadside find is also very exciting. I love the dresser and can't wait to see you work your magic on it:)
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't find your future children on the side of the road but it would make for an interesting blog post. ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how you redo the dresser!
Have a happy Tuesday!
Congratulations on the new car! I can't believe that dresser was just sitting there on the side of the road waiting for you. Love its lines!
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest that if you see small children in someone's yard, you should probably not take them home. Unless they have a "FREE" sign affixed to them. In which case you probably don't want 'em.
Congrats on the new car! Can't wait to see the curbside save finished up!
ReplyDeleteI love the lines on this dresser! Do you guys have to replace the tracks on it? We found a dresser on the side of the road last year, took it home, painted it yellow and now it lives in our dining area (you can see a picture at the bottom of this post).
ReplyDeleteThe drawers are always sticking so we need to replace/add tracks. We bought some but haven't installed them out of sheer fear. I'll be watching to see if you guys need to do this, too!
AWESOME!! I love that you found that dresser so soon after getting the car! can't wait to see what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteKatie
If you do find any children on the curb, I will gladly adopt them, especially if they were from the Ukraine.
ReplyDeleteNice find Erin! That dresser will be beautiful when its all refinished and the glass knobs are awesome. Nice car too!
