A Kitten’s Personal Ad: Single striped female seeking…

Zoe Kitten is going through a phase. A phase that involves lots of purr-yowling and excessive enjoyment of petting. Being the good parents that we are, we spoke with her about the benefits of abstinence made her a personal ad. And then called the vet.

Unfortunately for her, she’s off to the veterinarian today. When she returns home, she will be less of a woman than when she left.

On a serious note, though, I can’t emphasize how important it is to have your cats fixed—there are way too many homeless kitties out there. Our cats are all indoors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll never get outside, so we’re better off safe than sorry. From our perspective, it’s the responsible thing to do so that we aren’t allowing our cats to populate the earth with kittens who may or may not be able to find a good home.

Stepping off of my soap box now. Look, a cute kitten!

What are the quirky things your pets do? Do any of Zoe’s “personal ad traits” remind you of your pets? Anyone else have this week off? It’s good old February break in good old New York, so I’m here attempting to be productive. I’m not sure writing personal ads for my cat qualifies as productive. Oh, well…there’s always tomorrow…

  1. I wish I had this week off! I'm taking Monday off though so I'm looking forward to a long weekend. Yay!

Your kitty is so cute. Looks like she has tons of personality!

  3. We've always gotten our cats fixed, too (and every pet that I've ever had has been from a shelter). Totally agree with you on that!

Love the interpretive dance. My mom's dog walks on her hind legs a lot so we think she ran away from the circus. Totally legit.

  4. Oh is she adorable!! I love the sleeping one.
Way to be a responsible pet parent. I hope she won't resent you like one of ours did. It's like he knew we had taken away his essence. I think he mourned for a week. ;)

    1. Yeah I just picked her up from the vet and she's definitely not herself...she's just been sitting in the middle of the living room doing absolutely nothing. Poor sweetie. At least she purrs when I come near? :(

  6. Hahaha! You are too funny! We usually let our pets have a litter and then get them fixed. We used to have at least 4 cats, but people always wanted the kittens.

  7. She is so cute! And I love that you got the message out about spay/neuter in such a cute way. :) Good luck today, Zoe!!

  9. We always take our pets to the "spa". They're usually quite surprised to return with the "cone-of-shame".

  10. We knew it was time to fix Dakota when she started walking backwards, tail up, into my husband's leg.

  11. You made me LOL again and I never LOL when I'm reading blogs:) That is hilarious and I hope your kitty finds a perfect mate. My hubs just took the funniest photo of our pug sitting on our credenza in the front hall right beside a gold foo dog. It's hard to tell which is real and which is ceramic.

  12. such cute pics of Zoe. she is so precious. One quirky thing my dog likes to do is pout. He will go and hide under a bed and bark/cry until we come and find him. It's kinda like hide and go seek. He likes a LOT of attention, lol. We got him neutered when he was 6 mos old, so I don't think he really knew what was going on. I am so glad we did, I totally believe in it also, it's so sad to see all the animals out there that don't have families.

    1. haha silly dog! Zoe's only 7 months old, but the vet said he could tell that she had already been in heat because she was apparently a little "inflamed." :P Glad we did it now!

  13. awww these are such adorable pictures. I love when our little guys chase our mouse around on the computer screen (i assume thats what she was following?!), its so adorable!

Ours are both indoor-only, but we still had them neutered. Better safe than sorry!

  14. Zoe is a riot...and so are you. While I know losing some of her womanly parts is not exactly fun for her, thank you for doing it. As a mommy of 5 rescues, this is a cause very close to my heart. Hope she is feeling better soon so we can enjoy more photos :)
Our pets are all insane...I have no idea where they got that trait ;) Zoe is a bit younger than our youngest kitten but the look of wanting to get into trouble is undeniable. She reminds me a lot of Lemur - always into something.

  15. A good message. Your cat is so cute and awfully lucky to have owners who adore her, not all animals have it so good. (Something I like to remind my spoiled dog of frequently!)

    1. Oh I know! I sometimes say “I wish I was a cat” when they’re being spoiled beyond belief…and then amend that to include “a cat with a family that loves her.” So sad for some animals.

  19. Ok, I'm not joking, Manny came and sat on my lap when he saw the cat pictures on the screen while I was reading this. I went back to the top and scrolled through all the pictures again, and he was riveted! I guess he liked what he saw. If he wasn't in Washington, and she was still in the mood, who knows what what would happen. Too bad he is 9 years older than her though, that would be gross. :)

    1. hahaha I love it...she's definitely incapable of being in the mood anymore, though. He'll have to rob some other kitty's cradle. ;)

  20. Interpretive dance!! STILL laughing at that photo. I hope you haven't taken the dancin' spirit out of her!

  21. I think your kitten and my orange cat would enjoy each other! I mean, they like the same activities--sink lying, computer monitor composing, trapping siblings, sun bathing and their indoorsmen-ness! Love cats!

  22. ADORE your blog! Just came across it by way of Beneath My Heart. Those kids are lucky to have you as their English teacher. Keep pitching shoes out the window if that's what it takes!
